On February 22, a reporter from China Chemical Industry News learned that the innovative team led by Wu Dezhen, a professor at Beijing University of Chemical Technology and chairman of Jiangsu Shino New Material Technology Co., Ltd., has developed a new process for the preparation of high-performance polyimide fibers by integrated molding. Mass production has taken a substantial step, and the 100-ton production line using this technology is currently under construction and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. At that time, the production cost of high-performance polyimide fiber can be further reduced, the production capacity can be increased, and the market demand can be met.
According to Dr. Han Enlin, a member of the innovation team, the team has developed and built the world's first 30-ton/year-scale high-strength and high-modulus polyimide fiber production line, and achieved stable production in small batches. The project passed the scientific and technological achievements appraisal organized by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation in Beijing on June 25, 2016, and was recognized as an overall international leader.
As a higher-end polymer material, polyimide has been widely used in its films, resins and engineering plastics. However, the development of its fibers, especially high-strength and high-modulus products, is relatively slow. Previously, developed countries have conducted years of research on polyimide spinning with the goal of high strength and high modulus, but they have never been successful. The main problem is that the spinning process and related equipment cannot be solved, which makes the high-performance polyimide fiber Large-scale mass production has become a worldwide problem.
The innovation team integrated traditional polyimide fiber production methods and innovated, invented the integrated spinning process of coagulation, drafting, and thermal imidization of polyamic acid solution, breaking through the preparation of high-strength and high-modulus polyimide fibers. The bottleneck is a new integrated molding technology that directly prepares high-performance polyimide fibers from prepolymer polyamic acid solution. This technology not only effectively controls the manufacturing cost of the polyimide fiber, but also realizes the complete recovery of the solvent, thereby solving the problem of environmental pollution. This technology has applied for 28 domestic and foreign invention patents, 12 of which have been authorized, 3 of which have been authorized by the United States.
According to Han Enlin, the strength performance of the high-strength and high-modulus polyimide fiber prepared by this process has surpassed that of para-aramid fiber, and it has better heat resistance, radiation resistance and lower moisture absorption; Compared with high-quality polyethylene fiber, the product has higher heat resistance and better interface performance; compared with carbon fiber T300, the product has similar tensile strength, but high elongation at break and low density. At present, the innovation team and Jiangsu Xiannuo Company are working on the application and development of high-performance polyimide fibers in related fields.
